According to the Greek mythology ' the island is the famous stoned ship of Oddyseus. On the other hand according to the theological point of view it is a ship of pirates which came to Paleokastritsa with bad Intentions and Virgin Mary convertibly to a rock.

-- Savour the silence and the beauty of the famous monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary it was built on the end of the 13th century but the building we can see today is a renovation of the 17th and 18th century. The monastery is devoted to "Zoodohos Pigi" Source of life. The icons in the church are dated in the post Byzantine period. Overlooking Paleokastritsa (there is also a museum in the monastery where you can see a sea monstersceleton and an old oil mill which is open to the public).
